The American Tobacco Company was formed in 1890 through the merger of several tobacco companies and became one of the original 12 members of the Dow Jones Industrial Average in 1896. The American Tobacco purchased Lucky Strike would become leading Tobacco company in the US until Antitrust litigation broke up the company in 1911
